Press Release
PEDDLING PROTESTER - INDIANA TO WASHINGTON D.C.

VALPARAISO, IN - September 1st - On May 5th 2008, the eve before a critical primary in Indiana, Jay Weinberg chose to protest from the rooftop of a local gas station in effort to piggyback his agenda on appearances from democratic candidates. His song "Price Gouge'n" and his act of civil disobedience propelled Weinberg, 29, into worldwide media coverage. The story was carried by hundreds of newspapers (Chicago Tribune), websites (Forbes.com and NPR.org), radio and television stations (CNN, Good Morning America, NBC and ABC Chicago) across the country. But the frustration with gas prices, and the fascination with Jay's willingness to take a stand, didn't end at our borders. Japan's Mainichi Daily News, New Zealand's TV3, and The Times of India all ran stories about the protest.

Weinberg isn't stopping there. Now he plans to ride a bicycle from Valparaiso, Indiana to Washington D.C. to sing his song on K-Street and in front of the White House. Since his arrest he has been diligent in making connections and his persistence is paying off. He began by asking local bike shops to donate a bicycle for his ride. After receiving numerous rejections Weinberg didn't quit - instead he thought bigger and phoned=2 0Trek Bike's corporate office. A couple of weeks later he received a call affirming that Trek would be making the donation he desired; "Let's get you a bike".

He plans to leave the first or second week of October as he's looking for one more donation. On September 27th Weinberg will be in Santa Monica California at the alternative energy car show and a party at director Chris Paine's (Who Killed the Electric Car?) home. He hopes to secure sponsorship from an electric vehicle company so his own documentary crew will be able to follow him to D.C. emission free and also to land a spot on Paine's new documentary.

Weinberg's song "Price Gouge'n" was mastered pro-bono by Grammy award winning Doug Sax (Dark Side of the Moon). When Sax heard what Weinberg planned to do with the song he waived the normal charges. After hearing the song Sax said "It sounds like you've got a hit record on your hands". His ears haven't deceived him. As of this writing, the single is chart bound for Top 40 (currently 41) and is currently ranked 26 on the main charts for the adult contemporary genre. The you tube video of the protest garnered 5,000 hits within the first two weeks of being posted while Dr.'s and professors have given close attention to Weinberg's obviously educated response to dependency on fossil fuel. "I urge you to give Mr. Weinberg and his actions all due reflection and consideration on behalf of what freedoms we have left." Dr. Kari Owen.

After his day in court, Weinberg scaled the John Logan Statue in Grant Park on July 4th. He plead guilty to a criminal trespass charge but turned the tables with a lucid comment to the court which he then read live on WGN radio with his new friend - radio personality John Williams. "I wanted people to know there is an intellectual side to my demonstrations. Forty years ago this country was a different place. Forty years ago anti-war protesters climbed this statue and flew a Vietcong flag; today I flew an Exxon flag. Ask Howard Zinn if he sees the connections I'm trying to make."
